Configure Gmail for Optimal Email Use

Google’s Gmail is one of the most popular free email services offered by Google. As of 2021, it has 1.5 Billion active users world wide. A normal user typically logs onto Gmail either through the official mobile application or the web browser. Google also supports the usage of Gmail accounts through the POP and IMAP protocol. The POP and IMAP protocols are used to access the email server and the G Suite account from Gmail.

To access your gmail account, you will need to have an email address and create a user name. The New Email settings icon located at the lower right corner of your screen is what you will use to create a Gmail account. Creating a new account will give you the ability to manage your existing messages, emails and items as well as schedule snooze days.

You can use your existing gmail account to view your email address book, create and change passwords and set alarms. An important part of the gmail service is the ability to create and exchange digital messages with other Gmail users. To view all your contacts and tasks, you will need to log onto the communication network.

On the left side of the Google interface, there is a gear symbol that contains a number. This number is how many storage spaces are available on your Gmail account. The more storage spaces available, the longer your email can be stored and accessed. Each Gmail account has five to ten different account locations that will allow you to search for emails and receive emails. You will use the search bar located at the top of the page to locate these locations.

In the upper right corner of the main page, there is a settings icon and a gear symbol. The settings icon will change as you change various user settings such as the gmail user name, display name, and password. The gear symbol will change when you click the Gmail option found in your upper right navigation. The Google account setup wizard will guide you through this process.

When you are finished configuring the new Gmail account, the icon on the left side of the page will change to reflect that you are signed in. Your email account is ready to receive emails and send emails. To see all your email accounts and favorites, click on one of your accounts and click the Gmail icon. You will see a screen with all of your current emails and the email you sent a message to. You can then click on the attachments tab to view and download all of your items.
